Building the Base
A strip foundation is dug down to a minimum of of 600mm below ground level. This is filled to a depth of 200mm. The foundation brickwork is then carefully built up from this point.
A heavy duty visqueen, damp proof course membrane, is laid in the open space between the founds and the house. This is then filled with concrete, sometimes referred to as a solum, which is seen being screeded in the above photograph.
